Our Story
Mark and Ron Lazaro, the co-founders, are bike commuters and for years have dealt with their pants getting greasy and caught in the chain ring. After trying a number of partial solutions such as using rubber bands, Velcro straps, tucking pants into socks, and rolling up pant legs, the two brothers finally had enough and decided to make a gaiter(technically speaking the Leg Shield is a gaiter). Not lubricating the chain, critical bike maintenance, was not an option.
Mark visited an arts and crafts store and made a basic prototype. Both brothers had the same initial reaction when they first wore the Leg Shield, there was a peace of mind knowing their pants would not get damaged in any way. They instantly loved the product and figured other cyclists would also want a pant guard. It was a great way to protect pants without installing a bicycle chain guard.
They spent many months of developing, designing, and testing the product with a focus on quality and durability. They hired one of a handful of people in the U.S. that makes custom fitted wetsuits, seeking design and material advice. After creating twenty or so prototypes, the Leg Shield was finally finished. They are constantly looking to make the product better.
