Mark and Ron Lazaro, the co-founders, are bike commuters and for years have dealt with their pants getting greasy and caught in the chain ring. After a number of mediocre solutions such as rubber bands, Velcro straps, tucking pants into socks, and rolling up pant legs, the two brothers finally had enough and decided to make a gaiter(technically speaking the Leg Shield is a gaiter). Not lubricating the chain, critical bike maintenance, was not an option.
They made a prototype. Both brothers had the same initial reaction when they wore the Leg Shield, there was a peace of mind knowing their pants would not get damaged in any way. They instantly loved the product and thought other cyclists would want a pant guard.
They spent months developing, designing, and testing the product with a focus on quality and durability. They hired one of a handful of people in the U.S. that makes custom fitted wetsuits, seeking design and material advice. After creating twenty or so prototypes, the Leg Shield was finally finished.
We later developed reflective ankle and wrist bands with a design that maximizes the reflective surface area.
Our focus is on product quality, first and foremost. Our products are made with high-quality materials and are built to last. We cannot stand products that fall apart after a year. We admire companies with a product quality obsession such as Apple, L.L. Bean, the German Mittelstand.
Our philosophy is to be honest, fair, and long-term oriented with our customers, retailers, suppliers, and everyone else we work with.
